One of the most common questions we get asked is "can I qualify for benefits?" There's no simple answer to that question. What you need, however, are some tips on how best to prepare an application and what information the Social Security Administration (SSA) looks at when reviewing claims from claimants like yourself!
The SSA is a very rigorous organization when it comes to determining if you qualify for disability benefits. To start, they will ask five questions about your medical condition(s) and work history that need answering truthfully without hesitation or equivocation; any incomplete information could lead them on a course of action that would not suit either party's best interest in this case!
The SSA has strict income limits for eligible applicants. If you exceed those limits, you will be denied.
Your impairment must be severe enough that it interferes with your ability to perform basic work-related activities.
There are several conditions the SSA considers “listing level impairments.” If your condition does not meet or equal those impairments, the inquiry continues to the 4th and 5th steps (see below).
Even if you can’t perform at your current job, if the SSA determines that you can do work you have done before, you will be denied at this step.
SSA will determine whether your symptoms would preclude the performance of other full-time competitive work that exists in the economy.
